Total Joint Orthopedics Solidifies its Role as a Leader in Revision TKA Efficiency with the Addition of its Universal™ Cone System

SALT LAKE CITY, UT [October 11, 2024] Total Joint Orthopedics, Inc. (TJO) is pleased to announce the completion of the first revision total knee arthroplasties using its Universal™ Cone System. The addition of this unique system expands TJO's revision portfolio and solidifies its role as a leader in revision TKA efficiency.

Adding the Universal™ Cones to TJO’s Klassic® Revision Knee System provides the cornerstone to TJO’s revision offerings, allowing the flexibility of a cruciate retaining primary through revision in only three trays of instruments. The anatomical sizing of the Universal™ Cone affords use in both the tibia and the femur and offers a unique methodology to provide a more bone-conserving approach while accommodating a variety of bone loss and patient anatomy. The simplicity of the guided ream-only technique ensures precise placement and a customized patient-fit.

“The bone-sparing design of the Universal Cone allows surgeons to provide a customizable fit for their patients,” said Erin Hofmann, TJO’s CEO. “Other systems have had wide, fixed taper angles that require significant bone resection even with small sizes. Our Universal Cones offer narrower taper angles designed for the femur and small tibial defects, and larger taper angles to provide coverage for larger tibial/femoral defects while minimizing the amount of bone resection required.”

“Revisions are overly complex and complicated, over-instrumented, too hard, too long, too expensive. With only three instrument trays total for primary through revision TKA, TJO’s system simplifies revisions. It's game-changing, and there is nothing offering this level of efficiency on the market,” said Christopher Pelt, MD, of University of Utah Orthopaedics in Salt Lake City, Utah.

“The Universal Cones fit so well into both the femur and tibia. The broader sizing range was key to allowing that fit. Additionally, the ream-only technique provided simplicity that helped save time,” said Samuel Wellman, MD, of Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, about his first cases.
